"Research as mapping to build understanding"

Yesterdays Skype call was very helpful and i feel although i have come away with lots of information ready to begin completing the module 2 tasks.

There were some really good points mentioned such as making our research topic broad and more general. Adesola referred to going on a journey and how it will be more interesting if you don't know exactly where you are going to go rather than having everything set that you're going to do.

There are three different kinds of research

1) Mapping - Looking across all aspects of your topic and beginning to understand them in more depth.

2)Showing something is happening and looking/ Analysing the problem.

3) Developing/ Changing the problem to improve your outcome.

We spoke about the importance of choosing your topic early as you have time to develop it further along the line and mapping different ideas and following the discourses

It is important with the inquiry we are not inquiring about a topic with a yes or no answer we are mapping a topic to gather more information and knowledge as in the end we should not have a definite answer we should have a bigger understanding of our chosen topic.

  1. I'm a bit lost before I've started but I think that's the idea in the beginning. At least I hope so. I have topics that I'd love to look more into but they may be too narrow with my practice, whereas if I look at the behaviour/discipline side of my practice i will maybe find more points of view. It's going to be fun finding out.

    1. I also feel lost before starting i am sure it will unravel as time goes on, i haven't been able to find much literature on my topic which i am concerned about, its all still very much exploring ideas, looking forward to gathering research!

Theoretical concept- collective intelligence

Theoretical concept- collective intelligence Reading through Lens 1 I learnt the importance of connectivity on this course as it is about being a community, we use web 2.0 to connect with other people frequently via Skype and our blogs. We are all able to create discussion/ debate via comments and get involved with what we each are doing to progress with our studies. We use our “collective intelligence” to help reflect on the process of the course, we don’t all have to agree or be doing the same thing we are just communicating our own ideas. Mark Zuckerburg (Facebook founder) said that connectivity is a basic human right this links in with ethics as we question the truth behind this statement. We don’t all have equal access to the internet and therefore connectivity for some is more accessible for some than others. I think the internet comes with certain assumptions that swamps some cultures for example I think generally people assume that the older generation are very behind w...
Methodology/ Methods Upon reading the module handbook i havent yet come to terms with the difference between methodology and method , has anybody else found this and if so please comment below your ideas
Today's Skype tutorial with Adesola (one to one) was very helpful. I have now got an idea of where to start on this new beginning of the course. From now i will re read the module one handbook and then get a clear timetable and figure out what Skype calls i plan to addend this term. Another thing i can think more in depth about is my "practice" and how i would describe what i do. In response to Adesola's blog one new beginning i can think of is when i did my first professional job at The Roundhouse, London. I remember feeling a shift from doing shows at school to being treated as a professional. This was a big moment as it is what all those years of training were building up to and it felt like a completely new beginning into not only being a professional but into adulthood. New beginnings can be scary as it is entering into the world of the unknown, in relation to this degree we have entered into the unknown but as we have now started i have already learnt so many ne...
