"Research as mapping to build understanding"
Yesterdays Skype call was very helpful and i feel although i have come away with lots of information ready to begin completing the module 2 tasks.
There were some really good points mentioned such as making our research topic broad and more general. Adesola referred to going on a journey and how it will be more interesting if you don't know exactly where you are going to go rather than having everything set that you're going to do.
There are three different kinds of research
1) Mapping - Looking across all aspects of your topic and beginning to understand them in more depth.
2)Showing something is happening and looking/ Analysing the problem.
3) Developing/ Changing the problem to improve your outcome.
We spoke about the importance of choosing your topic early as you have time to develop it further along the line and mapping different ideas and following the discourses
It is important with the inquiry we are not inquiring about a topic with a yes or no answer we are mapping a topic to gather more information and knowledge as in the end we should not have a definite answer we should have a bigger understanding of our chosen topic.

I'm a bit lost before I've started but I think that's the idea in the beginning. At least I hope so. I have topics that I'd love to look more into but they may be too narrow with my practice, whereas if I look at the behaviour/discipline side of my practice i will maybe find more points of view. It's going to be fun finding out.
ReplyDeleteI also feel lost before starting i am sure it will unravel as time goes on, i haven't been able to find much literature on my topic which i am concerned about, its all still very much exploring ideas, looking forward to gathering research!
